Sara Gagliano, a brilliant former colleague inspired me to create an instagram art account for our school to promote the art department's work and successes. I had previously stayed away from students on social media out of ethical concerns with professionalism, but Sara and I created an official school account that generated an insatiable interest in our student body's art projects, exhibitions, and collaborations. I managed the account and she sent me tons of content from her art classroom, and I posted for our department as a whole. WHAT A SUCCESS! Students, parents, administrators, even other school department instagram pages were interested in our little virtual gallery. Like any art teacher, I would display their pieces in the classroom, but students often shared that they felt more recognition for their successes when I gave them a shoutout on the instagram page. The best thing, is that this can easily be an extension of your classroom. I would follow famous museums from around the world and repost their stories and videos on my story. The amount of passive information that students were able to ingest while scrolling was massive, and the payoff was extraordinary. Feel free to check out the attached plan that I've created as a school assignment to help your school get their own virtual gallery up and running. Happy posting, Steph
